What’s the difference between an aromatherapy massage and a regular massage?

An aromatherapy massage includes all the benefits of a regular Swedish massage, with the added benefit of a blend of essential oils (highly concentrated plant oils).

During this massage, you inhale these essential oil molecules and absorb them through your skin. This is where the chemicals react and have the desired effect on the body and also their aroma stimulates the limbic system through our olfactory senses. The Limbic system is part of the brain which deals with our emotions and can trigger long lost memories and feelings.

Benefits of Aromatherapy Massage

Each essential oil used in aromatherapy has different properties and generally we would use one of two blends:

  • Calming & Stress Release: Ylang-Ylang, Lavender and Rose Geranium essential oils.
  • Energizing & Detoxing: Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Peppermint & Lemon essential oils.

Since aromatherapy massage techniques are often the same as those used in Swedish massage, most often it is done across the entire body for stress release and relaxation.

Use of therapeutic essential oils in this massage is said to help with:
